“My grandad disappeared last Tuesday night. Into thin air. He never came home from the pub. He’d only ever stay out until eleven so even by half past, me and Nan were a bit surprised. Then by half twelve and still no sign I popped in and they said he’d left as usual at eleven right as rain. Next morning I rang the guards but since he’s a grown man with no signs of Alzheimer’s or anything they’re giving it a few days before they start to look for him. And there’s been no word of him since. I’m so worried.”
She turned to her Gran, smiling wanly. “You’re not worried though, are you Gran?”
“Divil a bit love, sure isn’t he always doing this”, the old lady replied with a shrug and busied herself once more at the sink.
Alice looked back to him with a grimace. “Grandad’s missing. He isn’t ‘Always doing this’. The police won’t look for him and Gran isn’t worried. Jesus, what a mess.”
Sean wasn’t sure how to reply. “Can I help at all?”
The words just came out. Sure how else could you respond to such a story?
